Meet the Governors

Welcome to our governors' section, here you will find out who is on the Governing Body and any vacancies.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the Governing Body’s Annual Report to Parents for the school year September 2022 to July 2023. As Chair of Governors, I am delighted to celebrate our learners’ achievements and the hard work and dedication shown by everyone at Team Waunfawr. I hope that our Annual Report will provide you with an insight into the work we do at the school.

The start of the school year saw us welcoming three new additions to the team: Sarah Vincent, Alison Sullivan and Jason Hughes. They quickly settled in and became valued members of the team.

It was a busy year for our school, with a rich collection of school trips and celebrations.  The children threw themselves into their topic work, including Hirraeth, which involved our younger children learned all about dinosaurs and fossils when visiting Cardiff Museum and our older children learning about the Celts and Romans with visits to St Fagans and Caerleon. The whole school community came together to celebrate Easter, Harvest and Christmas, delighting everyone with fantastic performances. I never cease to be amazed by the children’s confidence and the standard of performances. I must say a big thank you to our local Pentecostal and Baptist churches for giving us such a warm welcome. I was fortunate to attend the annual Eisteddfod event which once again saw the crowning of the Bard. The Eisteddfod was a fantastic opportunity for all children to highlight their talents, whether that be cooking, singing, playing a musical instrument, writing stories, reciting a Welsh poem, or even rapping in Welsh!

The children participated in numerous community events during the year, which included the Heddlu Bach attending Remembrance Day commemorations and hosting a Harvest Supper. Parents and carers also joined the children on a whole school trip to Noah’s Ark Farm Zoo, which was enjoyed by all. Further information on some of our community engagement events is included within the report.

In addition to offering the children many rich learning opportunities, we made excellent progress towards our School Development Plan, which our Head Teacher will set out in more detail later in this report. Well done Team Waunfawr.

I am proud to support our school and the many achievements of our learners and staff, which would not be possible without the continued support and engagement of our parents, carers, and the wider local community. Thank you for your continued support. I hope you enjoy reading our Annual Report and learning more about the work we do at Waunfawr.

Diolch yn fawr
