Welcome to Oak!
Wow! I can't believe we're at the end of the third week of the Spring term already! The children in Year 6 have been so busy completing lots of work in preparation for their transition to the comprehensives that the time is flying by.
This term our topic is 'Global Gourmet'. Based upon the children's ideas they will be spending time learning about where and how certain foods are produced, both locally and further afield as well as how food actually gets to us. In addition to this the children, as part of the National Curriculum, will be investigating geographical issues from the news, such as the flooding and will then be considering how this affects food production.
The children are very keen to participate in cookery activities so look out for any tasty samples they might want to share with you - if you're lucky !!
During this week they have been designing and making a Healthy snack in groups. They have been completing research (starting with their homework); designing the snack as well as the packaging; writing recipes, making decisions about quantities, costing and advertising prior to the making and evaluation of the task. Please ask them all about it!!!
If you have anything at home or would like to come in and help with any 'Global Gourmet' type activities just let me know.
